This year, All the Heidi Klum without the german accent.
SuperBowl XL 30 second Ads are $2.0MM – $2.5MM. I’ve taken the liberty of putting my opinion on the page, but you can judge for yourself.
Overall, this year we see a poor turnout when it comes to creative, just about anything decent will get you “In”. The competitive landscape left much to be desired and we have a few winners that come out on top for their investment and are “IN”...
First the “Outs”.... We’re handing out the “Auf Wiedersehen”s
Go Daddy: Window Washer, ABC rejected the first commercial and thrust GD into the forefront of Buzz. See their ad and why their retort WAS THE POOREST AD EVER. The Full Web Version fits their bill and Brand. However, all the hype and not delivering leads to a big let down. Sorry Bob, so far, no comment on Bob Parson Blog.
Dove to Spotlight: Real Beauty – Helping raise awareness about the effect the media and society place on young girls’ self-esteem. As much as this is needed. NOT THE RIGHT AUDIENCE. Drunk men and women, watching the SuperBowl, only further drag down the self-esteem of the women in the room. Much needed message, poorly placed “OUT”.
Ameriquest Mortgage Company: “OUT”, You were just sued for $300MM and Lost. Now you want to call attention to it with: – A poorly branded ad – Confusing message, half the people I spoke with about thought it was a response to the lawsuit – Others who did not know the lawsuite, did not know it was a Mortgage Company – Then those who knew Ameriquest Mortgage, and know that they are a subprime mortgage company, did not get the message.
Ameriquest, fire your AGENCY, MEDIA BUYERS, MARKETING STAFF. “OUT”, “OUT” and “OUT”. Don’t come back.

“You are neither IN nor OUT” ...
McDonalds and VISA skipped this year. Saving money and focusing on the Olympics. A good choice, considering the turnout and the pricetag. Nice work, you can come back next year.
Congratulations to the “INs”....
Careerbuilder : “I work with Monkeys“.. Barely “IN”. The tired monkeys were saved by the good use of brand and the funny monkey scenarios. Dancing and “Jackass”, with the allusion to drinking at work. “IN”, but barely.
Coke, Full Throttle: “Let your man out” just goes to show what the Coke marketing machine can do. Ameriquest take note. Well placed, right Demographic, well produced, and the icing on the cake was chasing down the Red Bull Car (that you love to see if you live in LA, because they CAN’T Drive). Coke – You are “IN”.
More to come in Part II
